Agbonlahor backs Leeds to secure top-six Premier League finish after agent's transfer reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Kalvin Phillips to play with Leeds United in Europe.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed the Whites are a “few players” away from breaking into the top-six.

Phillips has caught the eye with impressive performances for England in the European Championship.

The midfielder’s agent Kevin Sharp told the Sunday Mirror (20 June print edition, p76) Phillips has “no desire to move”.

He was a stalwart in Marcelo Bielsa’s side as they secured a ninth-place finish last season and his performances mean he is now a regular for England.

“It’s going to be the same problem with Kalvin Phillips that it is with a lot of young English players,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Look at Delcan Rice, they’re talking about Declan Rice leaving and going to a bigger club.

“If Leeds can bring in a few players then there’s no reason why Leeds can’t get into the top-six.

“The way they play their football with the high-intensity and high-energy.

“If they can keep improving their team, Kalvin Phillips will be happy with that and happy to stay.

“They’re not a million miles away from breaking into that top six. A few players, a bit of investment…

“I’m sure Kalvin Phillips would love to lead them into Europe and play in Europe with them. As Declan Rice would love to with West Ham.”

Phillips has played 211 times across all competitions for his boyhood club.

The 25-year-old has three-years left to run on his Elland Road contract.
