Agbonlahor backs Newcastle United to land four top signings after source’s January reveal

Newcastle United should try and sign upgrades on Jamaal Lascelles, Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie and Ryan Fraser next summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed there was no reason for Newcastle to sell the quartet in January as they could be hit by injuries in the second half of the season.

Sources told Football Insider last week (11 December) that the club will listen to offers for defenders Lascelles and Lewis and wingers Fraser and Ritchie next month.

They have all been deemed surplus to requirements after slipping down the pecking order under Eddie Howe.

“I just don’t think they should let them go in January,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Newcastle should keep their squad as it is until the summer.

“Financially, they are fine and they might need those players if they have a bad run of players getting injuries.

“In the summer you can say to them ‘You know what, we’re going to the next level. We need to get rid of Ritchie, Lascelles, Lewis and all these players that we are not going to play. We need to bring in new players who are going to take their place’.

“Newcastle are off to bigger things than what they can offer.

“I’d just wait until the summer just in case of injuries.”

Out of the four, Fraser has been used the most by Howe this season and has started three Premier League games this term.

Lascelles has only started one top-flight game this season while Ritchie and Lewis have been limited to one substitute appearance.
