Agbonlahor ‘baffled’ by Casemiro footage as Man United make appeal decision

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted he was “baffled” to see Man United star Casemiro raise his hands to Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes during the 2-1 win on Saturday (4 February).

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 30-year-old would have been “arrested” if the incident happened “in the street”.

As seen in footage from the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel (4 February), tensions boiled over for a number of Man United and Crystal Palace players on the touchline following a foul on Antony.

Following a VAR review, Casemiro was shown a red card for placing his hands around the neck of Palace midfielder Hughes.

The Brazil international will now miss this week’s double-header against Leeds United and the meeting with Leicester City – all in the Premier League.

Man United decided not to appeal the suspension on Tuesday (7 February).

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think it’s a harsh decision at all.

“Footballers know the rules, you know what you’re getting. You can’t raise your arms.

“If he dragged Will Hughes by his shirt, it would have been a yellow. But he put two hands around his throat.

“You can’t do that. If you did that on the street, you’d be arrested.

“To do it on the pitch with so many cameras around was baffling.

“He has to understand that VAR will look for these things. Casemiro deserves his three-match ban.”
