Agbonlahor: 'Banished' Aston Villa star backed to follow Morgan Sanson back from the cold

Frederic Guilbert could follow Morgan Sanson and be reintegrated into the Aston Villa squad, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed it is a “fresh start” for the forgotten duo under Unai Emery.

Sanson made his first Aston Villa appearance since April as they beat Man United 3-1 at the weekend (6 November).

As quoted by Birmingham Live on Wednesday (9 November), Emery insisted the 28-year-old can be a real asset to the club and he was aware of his qualities before he took over at Villa.

Guilbert has not made a matchday squad this season and spent the 2021-22 season on loan at French club Strasbourg.

“This is how it is meant to be,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The amount of times that I’ve played under new managers, that first training session, you have players who have been banished come back in and get a chance.

“It’s a fresh start for everyone. For Guilbert as well, it’ll be a fresh start.

“You’ve got to show the new manager what you can do in training and when you get a chance on the pitch you’ve got to show what you can do.

“Sanson will know and be thinking ‘Can I be the best in training? Can I be the hardest worker? That’s the way I’m going to get my chance’ There is no reason why he can’t.”

Sanson has now played 21 times across all competitions for Villa and is under contract until the summer of 2025.

Guilbert has not featured since the final day of the 2019-20 season his deal is up at the end of the current campaign.
