Agbonlahor: Bruce will be gutted after Newcastle transfer reveal
Newcastle United are set for a difficult 2021-22 campaign after their transfer budget was revealed, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England forward backed his old Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce to do “some smart business” by bringing in players on loan.
Football Insider understands Newcastle chiefs have handed their manager funds of between £8-£10million to improve the squad that finished 12th in the Premier League.
“It will be hard a hard season for Newcastle,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He’ll [Bruce] have to get some loans in and do some smart business.
“Newcastle fans need to look at this. They need to look at how much he has to spend and look at what other teams are spending. Compare the amount other clubs will be spending to Newcastle.
“Steve Bruce, as he always says, will roll up his sleeves and get on with it. He loves Newcastle, it’s his city and where he’s from.
“Whatever he’s given, he’ll get on with it. Deep down he’ll be disappointed because every manager wants money to bring in better players and do the best job he can.”
Newcastle enjoyed a fine end to the season partly thanks to the goals of Joe Willock who arrived on loan from Arsenal in January.
The 21-year-old scored seven goals in their final seven games but a return next term looks unlikely given the Magpies’ meagre budget.
In other news, Celtic have enquired about a Newcastle United player and a part-exchange deal may be on the cards.
