Agbonlahor can’t believe Aston Villa could sign Giovani Lo Celso after what he saw
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Unai Emery favourite Giovani Lo Celso would not be a worthwhile signing for Aston Villa this summer.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed his old side should move for a “quick winger” rather than an attacking midfielder when the transfer window opens.
According to the Daily Mail (24 April), Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Lo Celso after his impressive form on loan at Villarreal.
The Argentina international, who is still a Tottenham player, has spent the last two seasons on loan at the Spanish club – notching two goals and three assists.
Lo Celso played 86 games under Emery at Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal.
Sixth-place Aston Villa could have European football to help lure their summer targets to the club as the Premier League run-in approaches.
When asked if Lo Celso would be a worthwhile signing, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Not for me, no.
“I know Coutinho will probably leave, but I didn’t see anything from Lo Celso at Spurs to suggest he can do it in the Premier League.
“If he couldn’t do it at Tottenham, that’s telling. Aston Villa are now competing with Spurs in this top seven.

“I don’t think he’s good enough for Villa. When I watched him he could pull off some nice touches, but he lacks speed.
“We’ve got Buendia in his position – and I think Emery needs to bring in a quick winger, not another number ten.”
