Agbonlahor cites Gerrard as 'perfect' Howe's stance on Celtic job revealed

Eddie Howe would be the “perfect appointment” as the next Celtic manager, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa striker told the Hoops to look at Rangers and bring in a young manager and not another ex-player like Neil Lennon.

This site revealed last week Celtic have made contact with Howe and he is interested in the job, but also has an eye on a Premier League return.

The 43-year-old has been out of work since the end of last season when he left Bournemouth following their relegation to the Championship.

“Celtic need to look at what Rangers have done,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They’ve given it to Steven Gerrard, a younger manager with younger ideas and it worked.

“Celtic need to go down the same line. Don’t just bring in anyone or an ex-player. Don’t go down that line, they need to go down the line of a manager who actually knows what they’re doing who has got different ideas, different ways of playing, different tactics and brings a fresh approach.

“I think Eddie Howe would be the perfect appointment. He’s young, had an amazing career as a manager so far and I’m sure he would love the chance to manage such a big club.”

Howe spent over a decade in charge of his boyhood club which was interrupted by almost two years as Burnley boss.

He led the Cherries from League Two into the Premier League for the first time in their history.

In other news, Celtic are set to sound out a three-time title winner for his views on who their next manager should be.
