Agbonlahor delighted by Danks post-window arrival at Aston Villa

Aston Villa will not add anybody else to Dean Smith’s coaching staff after Aaron Danks arrival was confirmed, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the club have a solid base after last season’s strong campaign.

Aston Villa confirmed at the beginning of September – just after the transfer window closed – that Danks had joined Smith’s staff.

It comes after the Villa boss lost both John Terry and long-serving assistant Richard O’Kelly from his backroom team.

Terry told Sky Sports today (8 September) that he plans to spend a year with his family before taking his first step in management.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 18 August O’Kelly quit the club after they tried to promote him to a role with the Under-23s.

O’Kelly had worked with Smith for over a decade at Walsall and Brentford before they moved to Villa Park in October 2018.

Asked whether the club could bring in another coach to replace the two that have left, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think this is enough, he’s the one that will come in.

“You’ve got Shakespeare there, this guy coming in, Danks, and I think he will do a little bit himself, Dean Smith. I think that will be fine.

“The base is set there at Aston Villa. The players know what they are doing and I think that will be enough.”

Danks joined Villa after working at Belgian club Anderlecht for three months, before that he spent five years in various positions within the FA.

He posted on Twitter he was “delighted” to be joining the Midlands giants.
