Agbonlahor demands FA U-turn after Cristian Romero-Tottenham twist

The FA should slap Cristian Romero with a retrospective ban for Tottenham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Romero has a “real temper” and needs to learn where the line is.

The 24-year-old appeared to pull the hair of Marc Cucurella as Tottenham drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (14 August).

Spurs won another corner after the incident which resulted in a stoppage-time equaliser from Harry Kane.

Referee Anthony Taylor had a good view of the controversy but did not blow his whistle and the VAR did not see it as a clear and obvious error.

Sky Sports reported on Monday (15 August) that he will not face any further action because VAR reviewed the incident at the time.

“I just don’t get it,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It happened to [Marouane] Fellaini a few years ago.

“To do that to Cucurella, what is the difference between pulling someone’s hair and neck? To me, it’s a foul.

“It’s part of his body, that would have hurt. I’ve got no hair, I wouldn’t know but I can imagine pulling your hair would hurt.

“VAR is there to see that. It should be a foul.

“Even now after the game, he should get banned for that, Romero. This isn’t the Argentinian league, this is the Premier League. You can’t get away with that.

“He looks like he’s got a real temper on him Romero which I don’t mind but don’t take it too far.

“Cucurella had a right to be fuming over that incident.”
