Gabby Agbonlahor has hit back after Patrick Bamford claimed Leeds United should have beaten Liverpool on Monday night.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker claimed Bamford was wasteful in the 1-1 draw at Elland Road while his teammates were “very poor” defensively.
The 27-year-old told Sky Sports after the game his side had the chances to win the game and admitted he was “frustrated” with the result.
He had a good chance to level the scores when Leeds were trailing but he saw his lob come off the crossbar in the second half.
Diego Llorente grabbed his first goal for the Yorkshire giants to earn them a point with a header in the closing stages.
Asked for his assessment of Bamford’s comments, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I disagree there. Liverpool in the first half could have scored so many goals.
“It was a game of two halves and 100 per cent a fair result.
“It felt like Leeds were back to their poor defending, to be honest. They got caught out a lot with their man-to-man marking.
“They were very poor in the first half. In the second half, they were better and caused Liverpool a lot of problems.
“Leeds, defensively very poor but caused problems going forward.
“I thought Bamford looked quiet. He had a couple of chances he maybe should have scored.
“Switching off on the man-marking can happen but against the top teams you get punished.”
Bamford managed just one shot on target on Monday night and won zero offensive duels, according to Wyscout.
The result leaves Leeds 10th in the Premier League with six games left to play.
