Agbonlahor digs at 'boring' Wolves as source reveals Bruno Lage rift

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Bruno Lage is right to try and reinvent his “boring” Wolves side amid a dressing room rift at Molineux.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Midlands side should be challenging for European football with the players at Lage’s disposal.

A club source told Football Insider last week (6 May) that the players are “pushing back” at the 45-year-old manager’s plans to replace the long-standing back-three with a more conventional four-man defence.

Wolves have won just one of their previous six Premier League games, and have scored just 35 goals all season – the fourth-least in the top flight.

Previous manager Nuno Espirito Santo introduced the 3-4-3 system which initially carried over into Lage’s reign.

Agbonlahor insisted Wolves should be playing a more attacking system with the players at their disposal.

“When I watch Wolves I find them very boring, to be honest,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“It’s really not exciting when you’ve got your centre-halves on the ball for most of the game.

“You want to see Wolves play a 4-3-3 with the players they have. Jimenez, Trincao, and Podence are all fantastic technically.

“They’ve got the players to do it, and I’m sure most fans would agree. They will want to see their side play more attacking.

“They’ve got a good squad of players there and they should really be challenging those European spots.”

Despite their faltering recent form, Wolves have managed to hold on to eighth place in the Premier League.

They are five points adrift of an unlikely push for Europa Conference League qualification.
