Agbonlahor 'excited' by yet another Everton signing as Gray deal all but done

Demarai Gray would be an “exciting” signing for Everton, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Gray would be able to challenge for a spot in Rafael Benitez’s starting XI.

Fabrizio Romano reported today (21 July) the winger’s move from Bayer Leverkusen to Goodison Park is a “done deal”.

It is claimed the 25-year-old will pen a three-year deal, with an option for a further 12 months, with the Blues after spending six months with Leverkusen.

He will become Benitez’s third signing after winger Andros Townsend and veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Both were announced as Everton players yesterday (20 July).

Asked whether Gray could be a regular starter for the Toffees, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think so.

“I watched him at Leicester and he looked like a player who wasn’t far off. He was exciting, quick on the ball.

“He would be someone I think could do well at Everton. He could help.

“In some games, you could play Richarlison as a number 10, then you’ve got Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend as wingers. I think that would be a new, exciting lineup for Everton with pace and capable of playing counter-attack football.”

Gray’s 133 Premier League appearances, including 53 starts for Leicester yielded 10 goals and 11 assists.

He scored once and provided two assists in 12 games for Leverkusen after making the switch for £1.5million in January.

The Birmingham-born ace was called into the England squad after the World Cup in 2018 but is yet to be capped by his country.
