Every Premier League club will be jealous of Aston Villa as they enjoyed a 19-day break between their last Premier League game and the trip to Manchester City on Wednesday.
That is the view of Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer Gabriel Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider ahead of their clash with the Premier League’s in-form team.
Dean Smith’s senior side last played on New Year’s Day when they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.
A team made up of Villa’s Under-23s and Under-18s then played against Liverpool in the FA Cup third round after a coronavirus outbreak led to Smith and his players being forced into self-isolation.
Asked by Football Insider what the feeling within the Villa dressing room will be like as they return to training this week, Agbonlahor said: “I think they’ll be very refreshed.
“Yes, there might be some of the players who had covid may have issues, breathing issues maybe.
“But I think overall, they’ll be refreshed. It’s not a break that they wanted but still, it’s been a break on the legs.
“All of the other clubs would love the break Villa have had on their legs.
“So for them to get that, I’m sure they’ll be coming out of the traps tomorrow night, flying out of the traps with energy.
“It’s a Man City team that will be rotated but they are still players who have played a lot of football in the last 10 days and Villa haven’t.
“I’m looking forward to it, I think they’ll be trying to get something out of the game.”
