Agbonlahor: I was 'obsessed' with Jimenez and he's ready to explode again after what I've seen at Wolves

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Raul Jimenez to return to his best form after he scored his first goal for Wolves since returning from a fractured skull.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Jimenez’s goal against Southampton showed the attributes that “everyone was obsessed with” before his injury.

The striker scored the only goal of the game at St. Mary’s after outmuscling Jan Bednarek before finishing calmly beyond the goalkeeper.

He had struggled in the opening five games of the season but Agbonlahor has tipped him to explode now he has his first goal of the season.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He hasn’t looked himself all season which is going to happen with the unfortunate injury that he had.

“He’s just getting used to playing football again.

“He looked very good against Southampton. His goal was outstanding. That was the Raul Jimenez that everyone was obsessed with, the player everyone had in their fantasy football teams, the player that everyone loved watching.

“When he’s in that form, he’s so strong, he’s so quick and what a hell of a finish to chop back and calmly putting it away.

“Now, I think we’re going to see the Raul Jimenez first come to Wolves. Defences are in trouble, definitely.”

Jimenez had scored 34 goals and provided 14 assists in 86 Premier League appearances before he suffered his injury against Arsenal last season.

The 30-year-old is under contract at Molineux until the summer of 2024.
