Gabriel Agbonlahor has called on reignited Gareth Bale to dazzle in the next two Tottenham games against Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England forward insisted Burnley played to the Welshman’s strengths at the weekend as he did not have to do any defensive work.
Bale had arguably his best game in a Spurs shirt since his return to the club in the summer against the Clarets last Saturday.
He scored twice and contributed an assist as Jose Mourinho’s side ran out 4-0 winners as they moved to within six points of the Champions League places.
“Gareth Bale looked very good,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Burnley were terrible, every player had too much space. It wasn’t a formation that worked – 4-4-2 against Spurs was the wrong choice.
“I still want to see Gareth Bale do it against a different team or do it in the next game against Fulham, then do it against Crystal Palace.
“Against Burnley, he didn’t have any defending to do, he didn’t have to work back.
“He showed some clinical finishes, especially that second goal. If you give him that time that’s what he can do and Burnley were guilty of that.”
Saturday’s game was just Bale‘s third Premier League start of the season with the majority of his appearances coming in cup competitions.
He has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 20 games – including 12 starts – across all competitions this term.
