Agbonlahor issues ‘£50m’ Mason Mount claim as ‘confident’ Man United close in
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Man United should not pay a fee of more than £50million for Chelsea’s Mason Mount this summer.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Red Devils should not be breaking the bank on players who are “not good enough” for the Blues.
Sources told this site on Monday (29 May) that Man United are growing in confidence about the potential signing of Chelsea’s Mount, 24, this summer.
It is believed that Liverpool remain in the race for the England star – who is yet to make up his mind on his future.
Mount has just over 12 months remaining on his reported £80,000-a-week contract and wants a big pay rise in order to stay at Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder, who has been at Chelsea since joining the youth ranks in 2005, scored just three goals in 35 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.
He was named the Blues’ Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons between 2020 and 2022.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think he could play in that Christian Eriksen role.
“But there will be questions. Should Man United be signing someone who isn’t good enough for Chelsea?
“But I think getting to a new club, away from your boyhood club – it could do Mount good.

“You could see the Mount who won the Player of the Year at Chelsea.
“I think it could be a decent signing for Man United, but if you’re talking over £50m – I don’t think it’s right.”
