Agbonlahor issues ‘£70m’ Harry Kane claim as Tottenham stance revealed – ‘it’s horrible’
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Tottenham may be forced to sell Harry Kane to a Premier League rival if he refuses to sign a new contract at the club.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Lilywhites chiefs won’t want to “lose a £70million striker for nothing”.
According to The Times (6 February), Tottenham will refuse to sell Kane to a Premier League club this summer despite him having just 12 months on his deal.
The report claims the England captain has hinted he is open to signing a new Spurs deal despite interest from Man United.
Kane reached the milestone of 200 Premier League goals on Sunday (5 February) – leaving him 60 short of Alan Shearer’s all-time record.
He also became Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer with his first-half strike against Man City.
Agbonlahor suggested Spurs may have to win the FA Cup this season to “convince” Kane that the Lilywhites are “on the right path”.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Harry Kane has got 18 months left.
“In the summer, he’ll either sign a new contract or leave.
“But Spurs might be in a position where Kane says he is only going to an English club – because he’ll want to break Shearer’s record.
“Tottenham might not have a choice in whether they sell him to a Man United.
“It’s a really difficult position for Spurs. As much as they say they won’t let him go to a rival, if he runs into the final year of his contract – they could lose a £70m striker for nothing.
“Spurs don’t like to lose money.

“It’s going to be horrible because without him they are nothing.
“The best thing they can do is win the FA Cup this season. That could convince him that Tottenham are on the right path.”
