Agbonlahor issues Alexis Mac Allister hijack claim after Liverpool source’s talks update

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Premier League sides will be queuing up to hijack the Liverpool pursuit of Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old would also suit a move to Tottenham.

Sources told this site last week (19 May) that Liverpool are progressing with talks to sign Mac Allister this summer – with Brighton now resigned to losing him.

According to Argentinian outlet TyC Sports (21 May), the Merseysiders will pay the south coast club a fee close to £70million if a full agreement can be reached.

Mac Allister has notched 12 goals and three assists across 38 appearances in all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.

The midfielder, who is out of contract at Brighton in June 2025, helped Argentina lift the World Cup last year (2022) – contributing one goal and one assist at the finals.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I do like Mac Allister.

“The more I watch him, the more I see the Argentinian in him. His movement, his passing – even his penalty kicks, and the way he puts it in the top corner.

“I really like him and I think he suits Liverpool, 100%.

“He’d suit Spurs, he’d suit a lot of teams. But it just depends on the fee, and whether Liverpool are willing to pay it.

“It’s a lot of money.

“But I’m sure there will be a club out there willing to go through with it if Liverpool don’t.”
