Agbonlahor issues emphatic Everton v Aston Villa prediction after Ferguson reveal in last 24 hours

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Aston Villa to beat Everton tomorrow (22 January).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted it is a “good time” to play Everton after Rafa Benitez’s sacking.

The Merseyside club confirmed on Tuesday (18 January) Duncan Ferguson will once again take caretaker charge of the side for the “upcoming games”.

The club legend previously had a spell in charge in December 2019 where he took five points from games with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

He told club media yesterday (20 January) he promised his side will fight as hard as they can tomorrow.

The Saturday lunchtime fixture will also see Lucas Digne return to Goodison Park for the first time since his move to Villa earlier this month.

It will also be the first time Steven Gerrard has managed a team at the bitter rivals of his boyhood club Liverpool.

“I think it’s a good time to play them,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You don’t know what team Duncan Ferguson is going to play and I don’t really think it matters.

“If Aston Villa play the game and show the same commitment levels and energy that they did against Man United they will beat Everton.

“Steven Gerrard won’t really be looking at the manager situation at Everton, he’ll be looking at his players and what he demands from them.”

Villa beat Everton 3-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season thanks to goals from Matty Cash, Leon Bailey and a Digne own goal.

The Midlands giants are unbeaten against the Blues since their return to the Premier League in the 2019-20 campaign.
