Agbonlahor issues Everton corruption claim after major reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested there is no anti-Everton bias from referees.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Frank Lampard suggested there was after his side’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool last weekend (3 September).

Everton thought they had scored in the 69th minute when Conor Coady prodded in from yards out after a low cross across the face of goal.

However, after wild celebrations, VAR ruled the goal out for offside although there were some suggestions James Milner had deflected the cross and therefore played Coady onside.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Lampard admitted he was not surprised the decision did not go his side’s way because “we’re Everton”.

Asked whether he thought there was a bias against the Toffees, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think it’s hard to say that.

“When you look at the lines it’s offside but the lines look like they are drawn by different people every time. There’s no consistency with how the lines look.

“Everton had other chances they should’ve scored, they should look at that. Maupay was brought in and he has to start finishing those chances. He had so much time, he’s just got to slot it low and he scores.

“Everton have got to be proud of that performance and build on it.”

Everton

Everton are yet to win this season but the draw against Liverpool was their first clean sheet of the campaign.

Their next scheduled match is the visit of West Ham later this month (18 September).
