Agbonlahor issues ‘frightening’ Ismaila Sarr claim after Aston Villa source’s update

Gabby Agbonlahor is “disappointed” a deal for Ismaila Sarr to join Aston Villa has fallen through.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa striker said Sarr would offer Steven Gerrard a “different strategy”.

On Monday (22 August), Football Insider revealed that the deal for the 24-year-old has collapsed due to a failure to agree personal terms and Gerrard having second thoughts.

The Senegal international had completed his medical ahead of a move to Villa Park.

Watford accepted a £27million offer for the forward but he could not agree personal terms with the Villans.

Gerrard is said to have had second thoughts on signing the player after they failed to reach an agreement.

Sarr currently has two years left on his contract at Vicarage Road.

Agbonlahor said the winger would have been a good addition to the Villa side.

I’m disappointed that the deal has fallen through,” he told Football Insider.

I don’t know the reasons, maybe asking for too much in wages or the deal didn’t work for Aston Villa.

I was really excited when I heard that he was coming because for me, Aston Villa, for years, have had bags of pace in their side. I feel like Sarr would’ve offered a different strategy for Steven Gerrard.

I watch [Allan] Saint-Maximin whenever Newcastle play and his pace frightens defenders, he creates space for other players and Sarr would’ve done that for Aston Villa because the pace that he’s got is frightening. We need more pace in that side to have a different plan in games.
