Agbonlahor issues verdict on Arsenal sealing unexpected Pedro Neto deal

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Arsenal should steer clear of a summer move for reported target Pedro Neto due to his struggles with injury.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old Wolves star is not Champions League standard.

According to Football Transfers (25 April), Arsenal are ready to move again for Neto this summer as they seek a quality backup for Bukayo Saka.

The report claims the Gunners failed with a move for the Wolves star last summer (2022) as the Midlands club were demanding a large fee for the winger.

Neto has failed to score or assist in 16 appearances this term with injuries once again limiting his involvement in the 2022-23 campaign.

Arsenal will play Champions League football in the 2023-24 season despite seeing their title challenge fall flat in recent weeks.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s a good player, but I just wouldn’t do it.

“He’s been injured too much. You never hear his name any more.

“Arsenal can’t afford to sign anyone with injury problems. I think it’s a non-starter.

“They need players with Champions League experience, and Neto doesn’t quite fit the bill.”

Arsenal

Neto has struggled with an ankle problem this season after sitting out most of the 2021-22 campaign with a serious knee injury.

Saka has played in all but one of Arsenal’s games this season due to a lack of capable backups – with the likes of Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe unable to make their mark.
