Agbonlahor lambasts Alexander Iwobi as controversial Everton footage emerges

Gabby Agbonlahor has questioned why Alexander Iwobi threw his shirt into the fans after Everton were beaten 3-0 by AFC Bournemouth last week (12 November).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted he could understand the fans’ frustrations after the game.

The result extended Everton’s run to just one win in their last eight games across all competitions and meant they will remain just one point and one place above the relegation zone until at least Boxing Day.

At the end of the loss to Bournemouth, Iwobi threw his shirt into the travelling fans only for it to be thrown back in reaction to the team’s poor performance.

Frank Lampard told Sky Sports after the game that the fans had every right to be upset.

“I understand that, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“When you’ve had some bad results, the table doesn’t look good and you lose a game, go and clap the fans and walk in.

“Why would you throw your shirt in when you haven’t won? It just doesn’t make sense.

“You normally give your shirt to a fan who is asking for it after you’ve won. I don’t see players giving their shirts away when they lose.

“He deserved for it to be thrown back to him, to be honest.”

Everton’s next Premier League game is the visit of basement boys Wolves on Boxing Day.

The team are currently in Australia competing in the Sydney Super Cup competing alongside Celtic and A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers.
