Agbonlahor lambasts Leeds United after ‘dangerous’ £90m+ news
Leeds United should target players with Premier League experience rather than relying on imports who may not adapt to English football, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Leeds’ transfer strategy this summer is “dangerous” and they may end up with a worse squad than newly-promoted Fulham and Bournemouth.
Jesse Marsch has added six players to the squad that only avoided relegation by three points after a win on the final day of the 2021-22 seson.
Luis Sinisterra became the latest recruit on Thursday (7 July) when he complete his reported £21million move from Feyenoord.
They have already signed Brenden Aaronson (£24.7million), Rasmus Kristensen (£10million), Marc Roca (£10million), Darko Gyabi (£5million) and Tyler Adams (£20million) taking their summer spending to just past the £90million mark.
Aaronson, Adams and Kirstensen have all worked with Jesse Marsch before at a Red Bull club.
Asked for his verdict on Leeds’ transfer strategy, Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “It’s very risky.
“The Premier League is different. The Premier League has swallowed a lot of players up from different leagues.
“If I was Leeds, I’d be looking at Premier league experience. A bit like Newcastle did at first with Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier, players that can add that Premier League experience, you can rely on them and know they don’t need time to settle.
“The Premier League will be tougher next season, there are a lot of teams strengthening.

“When the season starts they might look at their squad and think ‘We haven’t even got a better squad than Fulham and Bournemouth’. That’s a dangerous thing.
“If I was Leeds, I’d start looking at players with Premier League experience.”
