Agbonlahor: Leeds United could sack Jesse Marsch within days after source’s ‘massive’ reveal

Leeds United may sack Jesse Marsch if they cannot produce a “statement” win over Liverpool on Saturday (29 October), according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Marsch is under “big pressure” with Leeds winless in eight Premier League games.

Their run was extended on Sunday (23 October) when they lost 3-2 to newly-promoted Fulham at Elland Road to leave them third from bottom and two points from safety.

Sources told Football Insider on Tuesday (25 October) that the club are laying down the groundwork to replace Marsch as they have put out the feelers for potential replacements.

“He’s under big pressure,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“The next game is Liverpool away so that’s a game where you can make a statement with a win against a struggling Liverpool. Or, you can get battered by Liverpool and that could be the end for him. It’s a massive weekend for Jesse Marsch.

“He’s come in, got the crowd going and tried to be that manager who is sprinting around, screaming at everyone. That’s not enough to get the crowd on side. It can help you have a few extra games but it’s about results.

“If you are not getting results and the fans are singing ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’, it’s inevitable what’s going to happen. Look at what happened to Steven Gerrard.

“I feel it’s a matter of time before Jesse Marsch gets the sack. Leeds will know other teams are down there and have got rid of their managers, they can’t be any different. It’s not looking good for Jesse Marsch.

“Leeds are probably looking at the Premier League and thinking it’s going to be even harder to stay up this season. Everyone thought Leicester were down and they go and beat Wolves 4-0. It’s a battle down there and Leeds are in the battle.

“You can’t lose at home to Fulham. I know Fulham have done well this season but Leeds are meant to be that team where they like playing at home with the fans behind them so they can’t lose at home to Fulham.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has revealed Leeds United will be “delighted” as a new Raphinha windfall is imminent.
