Agbonlahor makes ‘£50m’ Edouard claim as Celtic deal finalised

Odsonne Edouard has the potential to be a “£50million” player and Celtic will be kicking themselves as they have been forced into a sale this summer.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England forward Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Edouard looks set to complete a deadline day move to Crystal Palace.

Sky Sports reported today (31 August) Edouard is undergoing a Palace medical ahead of a deal that could be worth £18.5million in add-ons.

He had just 12 months left to run on his Celtic contract and he could therefore leave for free next summer.

“You could say it’s pretty good business, but it’s not pretty good business in that sense that Edouard, for me, will be outstanding in the Premier League and will score goals,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If I’m Crystal Palace, I’m buzzing with that signing. [Christian] Benteke has been shaky and they’ve been crying out for a striker.

“I just don’t understand why other clubs haven’t gone in for him because he’s outstanding.

“In the long run, I can see him getting a bigger move on from Crystal Palace, maybe £40million or £50million. He looks like the sort of player who can keep improving and be worth £50m one day.

“Physically, he’s strong, he’s quick, skilful and can finish with both feet.

“When Celtic look back, they’ll be thinking ‘I wish we tied him down to a longer deal’ so we could get more money for him.

“Maybe it’s not his confidence at the moment, he’s just fed up. When you want to leave somewhere you’re not going to be at the best form.

“That’s all it is with him. That’s why the manager took him off against Rangers, he could tell something was not right.

“The player just wants to leave and I think that’s the right decision for both parties.”

In other news, another Celtic player has agreed a move after a £3million bid is accepted.
