Agbonlahor makes bold Furuhashi prediction after Celtic transfer report

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Southampton will “definitely” be trying to sign Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Kyogo has the “quality” to make the step up from the Scottish Premiership to the Premier League.

As reported by Calciomercato (October 4) Premier League side Southampton have set their sights on signing the Japan international.

Kyogo only moved to Parkhead from Vissel Kobe over the summer but has become an insitant fan favourite.

Ange Postecoglou signed the 26-year-old in a deal worth a reported £5million.

He scored his eighth goal in just his 11th Hoops appearance with a deft finish with his chest in the 2-1 win over Aberdeen at the weekend.

The striker scored a hat-trick on his full debut in the league against Dundee earlier this season and hasn’t looked back.

Sundays’ game was his first Scottish Premiership appearance since August after he picked up an injury on international duty last month.

Asked for his assesment of a potential move to the Premier League, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I rate him highly.

“I’ve watched him a couple of times and he looks like a talented player with quality.

“He looks like one that can make that step up to the Premier League.

“If I was Southampton I’d definitely try and make that happen.”

Kyogo signed a four-year deal with Hoops upon his arrival from Andrea Iniesta’s Vissel Kobe in July.

The forward has eight Japan caps to his name and is set to add to his tally in the World Cup qualifiers with Saudi Arabia and Australia this month.
