Agbonlahor makes bold Wesley prediction after confirmed Aston Villa news

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Wesley will not play again for Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted Wesley does not suit Dean Smith’s style of play.

The Midlands giants confirmed on 28 August the striker had re-joined Club Brugge on a season-long loan deal.

The 24-year-old’s Villa contract expires in the summer of 2024 but Agbonlahor has insisted he has no long-term future at the club.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I said this last season and people were not happy with what I said, he’s not good enough for the Premier League.

“He’s not good enough for Aston Villa and he doesn’t suit Aston Villa’s style of play. Aston Villa want quick players, quick striker who can get in behind and have intelligence like Watkins, like Ings who can score out of nothing.

“Wesley was more of a striker that you would bring on if you needed a goal, just to be a lump up there, to bully and win flick-ons.

“I understand why he’s been allowed to go on loan, it makes sense. Keinan Davis will be back from injury soon, he can be the third choice striker.

“I don’t think he will ever play for Aston Villa again.

“The people that were making these transfers need to start going for the right players because it happened with [Mbwana] Samatta and it happened with Wesley.

“Just because someone scored loads of goals in Belgium, it doesn’t mean they’re going to score loads of goals in the Premier League. It’s a totally different league.

“We’ve learnt our lesson with those two players now. You’re better off looking at the Championship than the Belgian league.”
