Agbonlahor on Dominic Calvert-Lewin agreeing Everton deal amid ‘£50m’ transfer claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted there is “no chance” of Dominic Calvert-Lewin signing a new Everton deal as he will have to “prove his fitness” in the final two years of his contract.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the days of the 26-year-old being worth “£40 or £50million” are “long gone”.

Calvert-Lewin, who has made just nine Premier League starts this season, will enter the final two years of his contract in June.

Everton have recently tied up a renewal for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford – while a bumper new contract is in the works for Alex Iwobi after his form in the 2022-23 campaign.

Calvert-Lewin has made just 30 appearances across the last two seasons with several injury problems restricting his ability to play a part in back-to-back fights against relegation.

He currently earns a reported wage of £100,000-a-week at Goodison Park.

When asked if a renewal could be on the horizon for Calvert-Lewin, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “There’s not a chance.

“When it comes to giving him a contract, Everton have got to consider a pay-as-you-play deal. Low wages with a big appearance fee.

“It’s gotten that bad for him with the constant injuries.

“No club is going to give him a big contract. There was talk of Arsenal signing him a couple of years ago – but there’s no chance of that happening now.

“The days of him being worth £40 or £50million are long gone.

“He’s going to have to prove his fitness across a whole season now. Everton would be fools if they gave him a big contract.”
