Agbonlahor points the finger at four Everton stars after source's Frank Lampard sack update

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed the Everton players are more to blame than Frank Lampard for their current run of poor form.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted that the likes of Demarai Gray, Dwight McNeil, Anthony Gordon and Neal Maupay all need to do better.

Everton have only won once in their last eight games across all competitions and are just one place and one point above the bottom three.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this week (15 November) that club chiefs have decided to back Lampard and give him time to turn the season around.

“With Everton, I look at it and if they win two games they go mid-table so I don’t think it’s as bad as it looks for Lampard,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I think players are letting him down. You see Demarai Gray, outstanding one week then poor the next week. Dwight McNeil, can he do more? Gordon, why are you on the bench? There’s a reason he’s not starting. Neal Mauapy, can you do more? You’re meant to be proving Brighton wrong.

“I feel there are a lot of players in that team who need to wake up.

“They are playing under a top, top ex-player who is now a manager and trying to make a name for himself.

“I do feel he is under pressure but I don’t think they’ll sack him, I think they’ll give him the time that he deserves.”

Everton return to Premier League action on Boxing Day when bottom club Wolves visit Goodison Park.

The Toffees are currently in Australia competing in the Sydney Cup along with Celtic and Western Sydney Wanderers.
