Agbonlahor predicts new Watkins role and system change after Aston Villa transfer news

Aston Villa could line up with two strikers next season if they sign Tammy Abraham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer admitted the potential arrival of Abraham would mean Keinan Davis and Wesley’s future will be up in the air.

As revealed by Football Insider, Villa are favourites to sign the Chelsea striker and have set aside £40million to seal the deal.

Abraham is Chelsea’s joint-top scorer this season with 12 goals but has fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.

The England international has been limited to just 17 minutes of action across all competitions since the middle of February.

“He would just add a different dimension to Aston Villa,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If you bring Tammy Abraham in, you can maybe push Ollie Watkins out to the wing if you don’t want to play two up front.

“In some games, you can play two strikers with Watkins running the channels and getting in behind and Abraham as the presence in the box.

“I definitely think it would be a good signing and I’m sure it’s one Aston Villa would want to do.

“But where does that leave the likes of Wesley and Keinan Davis if that happens? You probably don’t need four strikers.”

Abraham spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Aston Villa and his 26 goals in 40 games helped them win promotion through the Championship play-offs.

Dean Smith revealed after his loan spell ended the 23-year-old will always have a “strong affinity” to the Midlands giants.
