Agbonlahor salutes 'perfect' Aston Villa signing as 'crazy' financial details emerge

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Emiliano Buendia is a “perfect signing” for Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League striker claimed the Argentine will slot into the number 10 role after Ross Barkley returned to Chelsea.

Football Insider understands Villa will nearly quadruple Buendia’s wages and the total cost of the deal will be worth at least £57million.

That includes an upfront transfer fee of £33million plus £5millions of add-ons and a basic wage of around £75,000-a-week.

The Daily Star reported on May 29 Villa were interested in Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek but Agbonlahor has claimed the move for Buendia means this is off the cards.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I knew they wouldn’t pursue Barkley or a Loftus-Cheek, they’d want an actual signing.

“This is exactly what I thought. You’re not going to chase Loftus-Cheek or Barkley when they’re on crazy wages and will probably cost a similar amount to Buendia.

“Buendia’s on form, he’s playing well, hungry to play in the Premier League, hungry to succeed. When there’s more hunger, they’re the players you want.

“Great signing for Villa. Getting it done early means he’s going to have a full pre-season.

“It just adds quality. You can have Jack [Grealish] off the left, Buendia as a no. 10, [Jojn] McGinn and [Douglas] Luiz behind him, [Anwar] El Ghazi or [Bertrand] Traore on the right with [Ollie] Watkins up top.

“It’s just the perfect signing.”

Buendia scored 15 goals and 17 assists for Norwich in the recently completed season as they won the Championship title.

His performances saw him named as the Championship player of the season.

In other news, Aston Villa have been tipped to mount a top-six challenge by signing a 26-year-old.
