Agbonlahor shares Celtic-Rangers title prediction after major development this week

Celtic should be expected to win the League Cup and it will have no bearing on the Scottish Premiership title race with Rangers, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted the two sides will go “neck and neck all the way” in the league.

Ange Postecoglou won his first trophy as Celtic boss on Sunday (19 December) after his side defeated Hibs 2-1 in the League Cup final.

However, they were then held to a 0-0 draw with St. Mirren on Wednesday (22 December) and dropped six points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

“Postecoglou did struggle at the start but the squad of players that he’s got available he should be doing well with that team,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They’ve got a top, top squad of players. He should be winning trophies and pushing Rangers.

“It’s great to win, but he’s expected to win with the quality of players and the size of the squad.

“I don’t think it will have any impact on the title race. Rangers will see it as ‘We keep playing our game and we can still win the game’.

“They will go neck and neck all the way in the league.”

Both sides are in action on Boxing Day with Rangers hosting St. Mirren while the Hoops travel to bottom side St. Johnstone.

After that, the league will be on their winter break with the two sides now set to face each other at Parkhead on 2 February.
