Agbonlahor shares inside knowledge on Bacuna after confirmed Rangers news

New signing Juninho Bacuna could fill in at right-back for Rangers, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England forward heaped praise on Bacuna – brother of his ex-Aston Villa teammate Leandro.

Rangers confirmed on Thursday (19 August) the versatile midfielder had signed from Huddersfield Town.

The 24-year-old has penned a two-year deal with the Ibrox giants.

He had just 12 months left to run on his Huddersfield contract before making the switch to Glasgow.

The Curaçao international mainly operated in midfield for the Terriers and Rangers are now well-stocked in that position.

Steven Gerrard also has Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, John Lundstram, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield at his disposal.

The Ibrox boss may have an eye on the future as both Davis and Arfield are in their mid-30s and out of contract next summer.

Asked for his assessment of the signing of Bacuna, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I know his brother, I played with his brother.

“I’ve seen him play and he can play in numerous positions, like his brother. He could even play right-back as well and other different positions.

“He’s a good player, he’s good on the ball, quick and has good technique.

“Steven Gerrard will have wanted more competition for places, Lundstram is in there as well. It’s good competition for places and it’s good for the team.

“It will help the team get the best out of each player.”

Bacuna played 107 games across all competitions for Huddersfield – including 21 times in the Premier League.

He also has experience of playing in the Dutch top-flight for FC Groningen.

In other news, two Rangers stars have been tipped to leave after an “unbelievable” Ibrox signing is completed.
