Agbonlahor shares 'massive' McGinn claim after what he's heard from Aston Villa man

John McGinn will be a top performer for Aston Villa no matter who the manager is, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict as McGinn continued his key role under Gerrard.

The midfielder has started every game under Gerrard since he took over from Dean Smith (11 November).

In the 2-0 win at Norwich City last night (14 December) McGinn won six duels and ended the game with an 88 per cent pass completion rate, according to sofascore.

As quoted by Birmingham Live ahead of the trip to Carrow Road, Gerrard revealed he “loved the person, the character, the player” of McGinn.

“He was looking good under Dean Smith as well,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s one of those players that will look good any manager because he gives his all and he will do well for any manager. He was doing well before Gerrard came in.

“But maybe he’s learning different tactics from Gerrard and applying those in matches.

“It’s massive to hear that. As a player you want the manager onside, you want to hear good things about your performance.

“You’ll take confidence from that and the manager sees the effort you are putting in.”

McGinn has now played 18 Premier League games this term, including 16 starts, and has two goals and three assists to his name.

The Scotland international, 27, has made 127 appearances for Villa across all competitions.
