Agbonlahor shares ‘unbelievable’ claim after Aston Villa update on bid to sign Gomez
Joe Gomez is an “unbelievable player” but he is not the sort of signing Aston Villa should prioritise, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed the club should look at strengthening other positions before centre-back.
Gregg Evans of the Athletic reported on Wednesday (22 December) the Liverpool defender is “admired” by Aston Villa ahead of the January window.

The 24-year-old, who has won the Premier League and Champions League with the club, has slipped down the pecking order at Anfield this term.
The arrival of Ibrahima Konate over the summer has seen Gomez limited to just 12 minutes of Premier League action this season across three substitute appearances.
“He’s a great, great player, an unbelievable player,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“But I look at that position and I don’t think that they need any help. Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa can do just as good a job as Gomez can do.
“Then you’ve got Tuanzebe there too who’s a decent backup. You’ve got Kortney Hause there who is decent too.
“I don’t think Villa need anyone in that position but it’s down to the manager. If he feels that he wants to bring someone in, that’s his choice.
“But I feel there are other parts of the team where I would prioritise than the defence.”

Despite his limited game time in the Premier League, Gomez has still made nine appearances across all competitions this term.
He captained Liverpool in their Carabao Cup win over Norwich City in September.
