Gabriel Agbonlahor has ripped into Leeds United duo Helder Costa and Mateusz Klich for their performances against West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa captain claimed Leeds were making half-time substitutions too often and it is an indicator that they are “burnt out”.
Klich and Costa were replaced at half-time by Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison at the London Stadium in the Whites’ 1-0 defeat.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United have earned praise from all quarters for their intense style of football but in the past, it has been the downfall of his sides.
In his first season in charge at Elland Road, Leeds suffered 10 defeats in their last 22 games after losing just three games in the first half of the season.
Last season was interrupted by the covid pandemic allowing Bielsa’s players to have a rest before securing the Championship title when the season resumed in June.
Asked what went wrong for the Yorkshire giants against West Ham, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I thought Leeds were very poor in the middle. They were run over in the middle of the park.
“Klich and Costa came off at half-time and you’re seeing it too often with Leeds that players are being brought off at half-time because they’re not doing it.
“They’re looking like they are burnt out.
“Teams are working them out. Like I’ve said all through the season Leeds can be very good at times but teams can work them out.
“West Ham worked them out. They counter-attacked on them, they used their pace against Leeds’ slow backline. West Ham could have scored numerous goals.”
Leeds have made substitutions at half-time in three of their last five Premier League games.
