Agbonlahor: This is why my heart bleeds for Watkins at Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he feels sorry for Ollie Watkins and claimed he needs to be more selfish at Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed the 25-year-old is suffering in the absence of Jack Grealish and you could tell he was “frustrated” against Newcastle United.
Watkins has not found the net in the six games that Villa’s captain has missed with a leg injury.
He played a key role in Villa’s goal in their 1-1 draw with Newcastle with his header deflected into the net by Magpies defender Ciaran Clark.
“I feel a bit sorry for Watkins,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“When Jack isn’t playing he doesn’t get those balls that he likes with the right timing. When Jack plays he gets so many more chances. They have such good link-up play.

“He has been great in every game he’s played in, even when he’s not scored he’s tried to make chances and make things happen.
“Maybe sometimes he should try and work not too hard. Sometimes in games, he’s working too hard to get a goal when he needs other players to find him.
“He works that hard in the channels unselfishly. I think he might have to be more selfish and take on shots himself.
“I saw against Newcastle late on he took a shot from an angle because he looked frustrated. He didn’t have many chances in the game he just wanted to get a shot off.
“The team will be looking to make more chances because he’s shown he can finish them.”
