Agbonlahor tips Ramsey to stay at Aston Villa after £30m bid submitted

Gabby Agbonlahor claims Jacob Ramsey will remain at Aston Villa and fight for his place this season.

The Villa icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the 20-year-old won’t want to be loaned out for the 2021-22 campaign.

Aston Villa have signed Emi Buendia from Norwich this summer, are in advanced talks to sign Todd Cantwell and have had a bid turned down for Leon Bailey, as revealed by Football Insider (July 23rd).

Ramsey has been at Villa since he was six years old and only made his professional debut in February 2019.

He was firmly part of the club’s plans last season, starting big games against Wolves and Leeds United.

Following Buendia’s arrival, Dean Smith now has plenty of options in the attack and this could lead to Ramsey being starved of game time.

However, instead of looking for a loan move, Agbonlahor expects Ramsey to stay and fight for his place at Villa Park.

When asked if Ramsey could be set for a loan move, Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley, “No, I don’t think so.

“I think they want to keep him around the first team, he played in some big games last season.

“I’m sure he’ll want to kick on again and work hard during pre-season to get more starts.

“I think he’ll stay and fight for his position at Villa Park.”

Ramsey was mainly deployed as a central midfielder last season though he can play in a more attacking role.

His one loan spell away from Villa came in 2020 as he made seven appearances for Doncaster Rovers, scoring three goals.
