Agbonlahor tips Tottenham to complete surprise Conor Gallagher swoop after new twist

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher would be a “good addition” to Ange Postecoglou’s new-look Tottenham side this summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted a Spurs move would make sense as the 23-year-old is “not good enough” to play for a Premier League title challenger.

According to football.london (14 June), Tottenham have emerged as a surprise potential destination for Gallagher this summer – with new boss Postecoglou keen to raid London rivals Chelsea to bring him to the club.

However, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (20 June) that Chelsea could be willing to include the England international in a potential deal for Brighton star Moises Caicedo.

It is believed Brighton see him as a ready-made replacement for Alexis Mac Allister – who sealed a move to Liverpool earlier this month.

Gallagher, who has two years left on his Chelsea contract, made 45 appearances in the 2022-23 season – scoring three and assisting one.

Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a serious knee injury in February and is expected to miss the first few months of the 2023-24 campaign.

When asked if Gallagher would be a worthwhile signing for Spurs, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think he could help them out.

“I don’t think he’s got the quality to be a regular at Chelsea, with where Chelsea want to be in the table.

“He’s not a midfielder who is good enough to play for a title challenger. He’s not good enough.

“But for Spurs, they’re the eighth-best team in the league – and I think he’d be a good addition to that side.

“He’d probably play week-in, week-out at the moment with Bentancur out injured.”
