Agbonlahor tips Wesley to push through Aston Villa exit after update

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Wesley to push for an exit from Aston Villa this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Wesley does not suit Dean Smith’s style of play and he will not be happy with being limited to a role from the bench.

Football Insider revealed Villa are planning to loan out the striker next season and recruit a new striker.

Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven have enquired about Villa’s former record signing.

Asked for his assessment of Wesley’s situation, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It’s tough, to be honest.

“Aston Villa really want to push on and Wesley looks like an OK striker. I don’t think he’s a striker who can push Aston Villa to where they want to go.

“Ollie Watkins is going to start every game. He rarely missed a game this season. Aston Villa are rarely going to play two up front, teams don’t really do that anymore.

“Is Wesley going to get the game time that he wants or the game time that he needs?

“Keinan Davis is the one they’ll want to keep as he’s a different option from the bench. I just don’t see where Wesley fits in.

“I’m sure he’ll want to go and to play first-team football and regular football. He’s at that age where he doesn’t want to be just coming off the bench.

“I just don’t see Wesley getting a chance at Villa. The way Villa play, they want somebody who can run into the channels and play counter-attacking football.

“Watkins is a pest, he runs the channels, he helps bring Grealish and El Ghazi into play. Wesley changes the whole way the team plays.

“He can make an impact off the bench but he’ll probably want to move on.”

In other news, Aston Villa have opened preliminary talks to sign a 32 goal/assist star.
