Agbonlahor verdict on 'amazing' Potter becoming Tottenham manager after key reveal

Graham Potter has “got what it takes” to manage Tottenham but Daniel Levy will appoint somebody with more experience.

That is the view of ex-England and Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the vacant Spurs hot seat.

Football.London report Brighton boss Potter has a lot of admirers within the Tottenham squad and has caught the eye of club chiefs.

Football Insider revealed Spurs are weighing up moves for experienced pair Marcelo Bielsa and Rafa Benitez.

The club are preparing for interviews and proven Premier League calibre and experience of managing a top-level club have emerged as key attributes.

They have already missed out on top target Julian Nagelsmann who will take over at Bayern Munich over the summer and they have ended their pursuit of Brendan Rodgers.

Tottenham have been managerless since Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month and while Agbonlahor likes Potter’s style of football he has claimed his lack of experience will see him miss out on the job.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Potter’s got what it takes, definitely.

“I love watching Brighton play, the football they play is amazing to watch.

“But I just think Spurs will look at it and think ‘Yes, he’s done good things at Brighton, but where are Brighton?’ They’re in the bottom six.

“I don’t see Spurs appointing a manager that isn’t experienced, to be honest. I can’t see it.”

Potter has been in charge of Brighton for almost two seasons and guided them to 15th in the Premier League in his first campaign at the helm.

The 45-year-old has also managed Swansea City and Swedish outfit Östersunds FK.

In other news, Real Madrid have made an approach to sign a Tottenham 24-year-old.
