John McGinn’s “outstanding” displays in the Premier League will encourage Aston Villa to pursue a deal for Celtic’s David Turnbull.
That is the view of Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as they reportedly line up a move for the 21-year-old.
The Scottish Sun report the Midlands outfit are lining up a £7million bid for Turnbull.
He enjoyed an impressive debut campaign for Celtic this season as he scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 35 appearances.
It earned him the PFAS’s young player of the year award and a first call-up to the Scotland squad.
He’ll be competing for a starting spot with McGinn who Villa signed from Hibs in August 2018.
Asked whether McGinn’s success at Villa may encourage them to complete a deal for Turnbull, Agbonlahor told Football insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “There are good players everywhere and there are great players in Scotland.
“Look at McGinn, he’s been outstanding in the Premier League.
“Villa will be looking at players from everywhere they won’t just be thinking they have to be from a certain place.
“Maybe he’s a player that Villa might look at and he’s got a great chance to show what he can do in the Euros. Then we can take it from here.”
McGinn scored three goals and provided six assists this season as Villa secured an 11th-place finish in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old now has 111 Villa appearances under his belt that have yielded 13 goals and 19 assists.
