Agbonlahor ‘wowed’ after ‘world-class’ Rangers update from Tavernier
The Rangers players will be excited at the prospect of facing Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Rangers were drawn against Dortmund in the Europa League knockout round yesterday (13 December).
The first leg will be at the Westfalenstadion on 17 February before the return fixture at Ibrox the following week.
The Gers were seeded in the draw after finishing second in their group to Lyon while Dortmund dropped down into the competition after finishing third in the Champions League group.
The eight Europa League group winners have automatically progressed to the round of 16.
Captain James Tavernier told club media he is looking forward to facing the “world-class” players the German giants have.
Asked for his assessment of the draw, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It’s exciting, definitely.
“That’s what Rangers are in Europe for, they want these exciting games.
“Dortmund, wow, what a game. Erling Haaland coming to Ibrox.
“As a Rangers player, you are getting to test yourself against the best. It’s exciting times for Rangers and I’m sure they are looking forward to that tie.”
The last time Rangers faced Borussia Dortmund was in the Uefa Cup third round during the 1999-2000 season as Dortmund progressed after a penalty shoot-out.

The Gers have reached the Europa League round of 16 in the last two seasons.
They were knocked out by Slavia Prague last season and by Bayer Leverkusen in the 2019-20 campaign.
