Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed feted Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips was made to look a fool by the brilliance of West Ham ace Said Benrahma.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker was blown away by the playmakers and wants him to be given a big role in David Moyes’ side.

The trip to Elland Road was Benrahma’s first start for the Hammers after his summer loan move from London rivals Brentford.

The Algerian had found opportunities limited in Moyes’ 3-4-3 system but was granted an opportunity against Leeds as he changed his system.

With Arthur Masuaku out injured, Moyes moved to a 4-2-3-1 system in Yorkshire with Benrahma operating just behind lone striker Sebastien Haller.

Asked by Football Insider whether the 25-year-old proved he should start regularly against Crystal Palace, Agbonlahor said: “I think he did very well against Leeds.

“There was one incident with Kalvin Phillips when he did a few stepovers and pointed the opposite way.

“He’s a great player, there were a few shots he had that weren’t very good.

“But the more games he plays in the Premier League we’ll see the best of Benrahma and he’ll prove to be a real quality signing for West Ham.”

Before the visit to Elland Road, Benrahma had provided two assists for the Hammers in just 79 minutes of Premier League action.

West Ham paid Brentford a £5million loan fee for Benrahma and have an option to make the deal permanent for £20million next summer plus £5million of potential add-ons.

In other news, a top pundit has claimed the West Ham board are making a “danger play” that could haunt them.
