Former Scotland international Alan Brazil has warned Tottenham star Dele Alli to learn from his mistakes or pay for the consequences.
The 21-year-old midfielder has found himself at the centre of controversy in recent weeks with a series of incidents for both club and country.
He received a one match ban for an obscene gesture made during England’s clash World Cup qualifying clash against Slovakia, and he found himself the target once again during Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday.
The midfielder appeared to try con the referee with a dive in an incident with goalkeeper Jonas Lossl, and was subsequently booked for his act.
Now Brazil, who played 31 games for Tottenham during his career, says that Alli has to manage his behaviour or risk become a target from players and officials alike.
Writing in a column for you-are-the-ref.com, he said: “He was already a lucky boy for only having received a one-match ban for his gesture.
“For me his dive at Huddersfield suggests he is not learning any lessons – there was absolutely no need.
“If he is not careful, Alli will find that he has become a marked man, and the day that happens he will certainly have no one else to blame but himself.”
So far this season the Tottenham man has started all of the matches, eight in total, that he is eligible for, as he serves a three game ban for fixtures in Europe.
He has appeared 104 times in total for the club, with 35 goals and 25 assists to his name since joining from MK Dons.
He also has established himself as a key player for his country, with 21 appearances for England since his debut in 2015.
