Alan Pardew reveals why Steve Parish and Oliver Glasner will be under ‘huge pressure’ to sell Marc Guehi in January

Former Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew believes Oliver Glasner may be forced to sell Marc Guehi in the January transfer window.

Guehi was a top target for Liverpool in the summer, but the 25-year-old ended up staying at Selhurst Park where his contract expires at the end of the season.

The defender has become a key member in Glasner’s side, with Crystal Palace currently 10th in the Premier League table.

Crystal Palace’s 0-0 draw against Brighton last time out was without Guehi due to injury, which will also keep him out of the England squad during the international break.

Alan Pardew ‘expects’ Marc Guehi to leave Crystal Palace in January

Speaking to Sky Sports, [11 November], Pardew explained why he believes Guehi will leave the club in January.

The ownership of Crystal Palace is obviously Steve Parish and two guys who run hedge funds. Now hedge fund business is all about money and making sure you don’t lose potential in terms of transfers,” Pardew said.

I’m guessing Steve Parish and the manager will be under huge pressure from those two owners to get some money for him in January, but the problem Palace have got is the ball is very much in the player’s court and his agent’s court.

They can take their time they can wait until the summer. They don’t need to go in January, they’re having a great season Crystal Palace perhaps one of their best seasons ever.

I would say after Ian Wright this is how good I think he is, he is the best player to come out of Crystal Palace. So you’re talking about one of the best centre halves in the world that is available on a free.

There’s genuine interest in him from all the big clubs and I expect him to move in January.”

Crystal Palace already have Guehi replacement

Whilst Crystal Palace will be in the market for a new centre-back when Guehi departs, Glasner may already have an upcoming star in his ranks.

Jaydee Canvot starred for Crystal Palace against Brighton, as the 19-year-old kept a clean sheet on his first ever Premier League start.

The Frenchman joined the South London club from Toulouse in the summer for just £23million, which could end up being a bargain in the long-term.
