Alan Shearer delivers instant verdict on Newcastle signing Nick Woltemade
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was wowed by Nick Woltemade’s debut goal against Wolves on Saturday.
Eddie Howe was forced to reshuffle his forward line in the summer transfer window, as Alexander Isak joined Liverpool, whereas Callum Wilson went to West Ham United as a free agent.
Meanwhile, amid the previous sage surrounding Isak, the Magpies failed to win in their first three games of the Premier League season.
However, Newcastle summer signing Woltemade showed Howe that he can produce the goods in the Premier League by scoring against Wolves in a 1-0 victory.

However, Woltemade put any worries to bed when his 30th minute strike put Howe’s men ahead against Vitor Pereira’s men at St James’ Park.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old is set for a significantly tougher test when Newcastle face Barcelona in the Champions League on Thursday, 18 September.
Howe’s side also host Arsenal in September, in a clash which could help determine whether the North East Club are ready to challenge for a top-five spot once again.
Woltemade’s header against Wolves, as well as the 17 goals and three assists he notched for his former club Stuttgart last term suggest that he can perform for the Magpies in the Premier League.
However, the success of his Newcastle career will not be decided by how he performs against relegation candidates such as Wolves.
