Alan Shearer ‘impressed’ by one Tottenham quality in win vs Leeds, they scored from it

Tottenham have had a very good start to life under Thomas Frank and one particular quality of theirs has been highlighted.

Spurs beat Leeds United 2-1 at Elland Road on Saturday (4 October), a result which moved them up to third in the Premier League table.

Goals from Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus, either side of a Noah Okafor strike, secured the win for the North London outfit.

After seven games of the season, Tottenham now sit just two points behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League.

Tottenham use smart tactic to overcome strong Leeds performance

It was far from a comfortable win for Tottenham, who had to work hard for their three points at Elland Road.

Leeds were on top for large periods of the contest, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing a number of big chances.

However, speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer praised Tottenham for their counter-attacking abilities, which were on full display in Yorkshire.

“Leeds had more possession, more shots and the better chances, but what impressed me was how good Spurs were on the transition, on the turnover.

“They got the ball forward quickly and the two full-backs, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, were great. I was really impressed with Spurs.”

Tottenham counter-attack resulted in a goal

Tel scored the opener for Tottenham against Leeds, crashing home from the edge of the area to give the away side the lead.

The goal was a perfect example of Spurs’ counter-attacking capabilities on full show, as they went from back to front in a flash.

Leeds fired a long ball into the Tottenham half, with Porro winning the header and Rodrigo Bentancur picking it up in the centre of the park.

Bentancur played it into the feet of Kudus on the halfway line, with the former West Ham United player taking one touch before releasing Tel.

Tel shaped up Pascal Struijk on the edge of the box, before his shot deflected off the Leeds defender and into the top corner to give Spurs the lead.

There were just 10 seconds between when Porro won the header in his own half and the ball hit the back of the net, as Tottenham delivered a devastating counter-attack to unlock Daniel Farke’s side.
