BBC pundit makes Twitter admission about Newcastle after loss v Brighton

By Danny Wright

Alan Shearer has admitted that the better side won after his beloved Newcastle United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Brighton on Sunday.

The Magpies went into the Premier League fixture in great form, having won their last three fixtures in the competition while also having the mental edge over the Seagulls after they pipped them to the Championship title last term.

However more success over the south coast side wasn’t to be as Tomer Hemed’s acrobatic second-half goal gave Chris Hughton three points over his old side.

BBC Match of the Day pundit Shearer has now taken to his personal Twitter account to admit that Brighton deserved their win on Sunday, even though the Toon had their fair share of chances.

“Not good enough today from Newcastle unfortunately. The better team won,” the Tyneside legend said.

Newcastle dropped down to ninth in the Premier League table after Sunday’s reverse as their goal difference was reduced enough to see them slip.

They can potentially move further down the table on Monday night as long as Arsenal and West Brom do not draw with one another at the Emirates as both sides are within touching distance of the Tynesiders.

Shearer, as well as the large Geordie fanbase, will no doubt be hoping Rafa Benitez can lead his side back to winning ways when they welcome Liverpool to St. James’ Park next Sunday.
